Foreign Investment in Iceland discussed at Capacent Glacier Conference

Foreign investment in Iceland was the subject of a conference organized by Capacent Glacier at Grand Hotel Reykjavík on November 11th. A new report on foreign investment in Iceland titled Past Lessons – Present Situation – Future Possibilities was presented at the conference.

Mr. Jon Didrik Jonsson, Chairman of Capacent Glacier, stressed the importance of foreign investment for Iceland to speed up economic recovery.

Mr. Magnus Bjarnason, CEO of Capacent Glacier, presented a new Capacent Gallup poll showing strong support for foreign investment in Iceland with 85% of executives and 73% of the general public being in favor of foreign investment.

Mr. Bjarnason said there was currently a strong interest in Iceland among foreign investors and stressed the need for a steady deal-flow to take advantage of that interest.

Mr. Hrafn Magnusson, Director of the Icelandic Pension Fund Association, declared the interest of Icelandic pension funds to cooperate with foreign investors and revealed that a massive reconstruction fund will be launched by the pension funds later this month.

Mr. Ross Beaty, Chairman and CEO of Magma Energy, talked about his experience in investing in Iceland after the crash and Mr. Mats Josefsson, adviser to the Icelandic government, discussed steps that still need to be taken to resurrect the Icelandic banking system and rebuild international trust in the system.
